Today was our Opening Ceremony for our Olympic unit. We spent some time earlier in the week assigning countries to each child. They colored their country’s flag, and also made a torch to carry.
Torches ready to go for the Opening Ceremony!
So, when today arrived, we gathered our flags, torches, and the laptop with Olympic music and made our way out to the playground for the Parade of Nations. (Let’s all take a moment to thank God that the rain came yesterday instead of today. It was absolutely gorgeous outside!) Each child’s name and country was announced, and they took a lap around the parking lot area of the playground while holding up their flag and torch (some chose to do quite a few laps!).
We were very excited! Check out the paraders in the background…all very into the Parade of Nations. 🙂
Once our country introductions were done, and we had completed many laps of the playground, we took a group picture and got ready to head back inside for more Olympic fun.
While the warm weather was great, the Sun made our pictures a little interesting.
Once back inside, we enjoyed a yummy “torch” treat before starting our Olympic art projects for the day. A fun and exciting (and yummy!) Opening Ceremony for the 4R Olympics!!
4R Olympic games continue until Wednesday, August 29th. All events are due that day. Closing Ceremony will be on Friday, August 31st, when medals for events will be awarded. Stay tuned for more updates on our Olympic unit!!
