Author’s Purpose

Phwew!  We made it through our first full week of school!

So far this week we’ve been studying the beginnings of Indiana History, what scientists do, punctuation and capitalization rules, place value, and for reading this week: Author’s Purpose.

When an author writes, they usually write with a purpose in mind.  The most common author’s purposes are to either persuade, inform, or entertain.  We studied this a bit this week during Reading class.

Mmm…pie!  🙂

To get a better handle on what types of books are out there, and for what kinds of different purposes they were written, we cut apart some leftover book orders and sorted books by their author’s purpose.

A great first week in 4R!  Stay tuned for more updates this year about what we’re up to in 4th grade!!  🙂
